And yes, they’re even better than you think they are.

The rise of the micro-influencer is now. Micro-influencers are going to be the next “big” thing that brands are going to want to work with in 2018. But, what even is a micro-influencer? A micro-influencer is somebody who has 1,000 to 100,000 followers on Instagram, and suddenly, there is such thing as being too popular.

While micro-influencers have a lot fewer followers that those “Instagram celebrities” every brand thinks they should be working with, micro-influencers get an average of two-to-five times more organic engagement per Instagram post, compared to those with more than 100,000 followers. Once an influencer has more than 100,000 followers, engagement and likes start to flatten out. A lot of followers stop interacting with somebody who has a lot of followers because they are seen as “famous” whereas followers are more likely to engage with an influencer when they have a smaller following because they feel as if they can relate to them better.

So why are companies choosing micro-influencers over the Kardashians of the world? It’s simple. Trust and relationships are being built with followers when an influencer has a smaller following, and that is critical for making a purchase. Looking at my Instagram (4,025 followers) vs. Kim Kardashians (1.9 million followers), I have a high engagement rate at 15.33% whereas Kim Kardashian only has an engagement rate of 1.69%. That’s quite a big difference. HubSpot reports that micro influencers, on average, receive 0.10% higher engagement rates than macro influencers. So this is where micro-influencers end up being the better option when looking for people to promote products on Instagram.

Micro-influencers are authentic. It is easier to believe that a micro-influencer actually bought or used a featured product. Although some photos a little staged, it’s easier to think that a micro-influencer purchased a snack than it is a celebrity. This kind of authenticity attracts engagement, awareness and brand recall. Hiring a micro-influencer is a lot cheaper than it is to hire a celebrity to feature a product on their page. On average, a micro influencer can charge around $140 per Instagram post whereas someone with over 1 million followers on Instagram can rake in almost $50k on a single post. Micro-influencers create higher engagement, and they are cheaper to work with. So realistically, they’re the better clients.

While more eyeballs might now be seeing the post from a micro-influencer, they still can create as much traction, if not more than a celebrity. Say you are an athletic brand just starting out and you believe you have a really great product. It would be easy to send your product to a celebrity, and that’s a guaranteed way for your brand to be noticed, BUT if you want real traction, it’s better to send your product to a fitness micro-influencer because if they are promoting your product, it’s most likely to people that trust them. When that trust is there, purchases are made.

Red Pants

Red has recently walked its way into my wardrobe this winter, and I’m all about it. I was never a fan of red until recently but I think it’s the best way to add a pop of color and it definitely makes a statement!

Hat

Since starting blogging and paying a lot more attention to detail when scrolling through Instagram, I’ve gotten into hats! I never thought I looked good in them and stayed away, but I took a risk with the baker boy hat/conductor hat/whatever you want to call it, and I loved it! So, I took another risk with this hat, and I think you should too. It’s a fun way to change an outfit and it can take a somewhat boring outfit to an exciting outfit!

4th of July Daydream

4th of July Daydream

IMG_09564th of July is THE BEST in Webster. Just like Thanksgiving, everybody comes together and celebrates it the best. If I say so myself, Webster celebrates it the best. I know it’s actually quite common for many people to go to the lake for the 4th but for me, Webster 4th of July is all I’ve ever known and all I ever want to know as far as that goes. I’m saying this now (and don’t hold me to it because really, not a single clue what I’m doing with my life or where I’ll be in a few years) but I will not miss 4th of July in Webster.

It’s the best small town feel in not a small town. There’s a carnival every year, fireworks, really just the entire week leading up to the 4th is the best….ok, July 1st-July 4th so really not a week. Going to the carnival growing up

was a social scene. It’s where you went to hang out with friends, show off new outfits and actually just to be seen, you didn’t typically ride on the rides unless you were young. I did this up until this year where I just didn’t have time to go, I guess that’s what happens when you get older.

On the actual 4th, it’s a huge party. There’s a parade that’s basically the same every year. I live a street over from the parade route so that makes it more fun now! People set up their chairs before the day of, and it just get’s everybody excited. With that being said, there are definitely parties all day long! Just like Thanksgiving, the 4th of July is a fashion show. You get new clothes to wear for the day, and that’s how it’s always been.

For my outfit, I opted for a more casual look. While in New York, I always make it a point to stop into Brandy Melville which is where my dress is from! A lot of people had on similar dresses in the same style and it was flattering on everyone I saw! Because of that, I think this style of dress would work on may different body types! This dress linked is from Urban Outfitters! Mine isn’t online but it’s so similar and will give you the same look.

Red lips have quickly become something I love!! I wore one to prom my senior year, loved it and didn’t really ever wear one since. I was constantly worried that I’d have to touch it up but I’ve found two products where I don’t have to do that! The one I wore to prom is Nars Dragon Girl. I maaaayyyy have gotten it because Taylor Swift said she wears it but it’s the perfect red! In these pictures, I am wearing is an Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick.

I didn’t wear anything on my eyes other than mascara because I wore my Ray-Bans. My necklaces are from Nordstrom Rack and Kendra Scott. I kept my shoes really simple and just wore my Tory Burch Miller sandals!

Don’t forget to follow my Instagram to stay more up to date with my outfits and what’s happening in my life!

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetWelcome to my new favorite outfit I’ve ever worn. I saw a Topshop stylist wearing this dress on Instagram and I knew that I had to get it! I actually got mine from Nordstrom since there is no Topshop in St. Louis. I also wanted to be able to try it on before purchasing it so that I didn’t have to send it back if it didn’t fit or I didn’t like it. Well, I loved it. My tip for Topshop is to size up!!! I wear a 0-2 in dresses and most clothing but for this dress, I am wearing a size 4. Seriously, this dress is so comfortable and I’m not one to gravitate towards dresses! So when I say you need this, you absolutely need this. It’s perfect for a last minute 4th of July outfit. I have it pretty dressed up in these pictures but it would be easy to dress down with some sandals or maybe even the Nine West shoes that I’ve worn in my other posts!

I paired this dress with shoes from TARGET!! Yes, Target. Don’t hate, they actually have cute things. I originally got these shoes in April for my sorority formal and didn’t know when I’d wear them again so I’m glad I’m able to find ways to keep re-wearing these. These shoes by Steve Madden are SUPER similar to the ones I’m wearing, mine aren’t online anymore! You can definitely find this style anywhere though.

I kept the jewelry minimal with this outfit, wearing a necklace from Kendra Scott that I don’t ever take off and another dainty necklace. I also just wore my David Yurman ring (in the color prasiolite) and two other rings that my Grandma owned before she passed away!

I particularly love how this dress made me look tall! That’s a huge plus when I’m shopping for clothes. Most dresses I try on are always too long so this one is definitely the perfect length. If you’re around 5’3 then you NEED this!
