Survival Guide To Fall Fashion

Survival Guide To Fall Fashion

I wanted to share a post on everything that you need to get you through the fall season whether it be the top trends or just some really good staple pieces! There are so many amazing pieces out right now that I needed to share! I seriously think I need every single piece on this list! While realistically, that isn’t possible because hellloooo is money no object? I wish that was the case. But really, at least consider one of these pieces! I’ve got you covered from head to toe, literally.

Sam Edelman Short Faux Fur Jacket | $200

This might be one of my favorite jackets that I’ve seen this season! I love the white and black together but it’s a different take on this style jacket.

BLNKNYC Morning Suede Moto Jacket |$188

I got this jacket last season and I don’t regret it! It’s such an easy piece to layer with and getting it in a neutral color like this makes it easy to wear with black or brown.

Topshop Mary Kate Trench Coat |$110
Topshop Ava Double Breasted Jacket | $44.99

I love layering with a blazer because it totally changes an outfit! Plus, who doesn’t love pink…

Topshop Lily Knit Back Midi Coat | $125

Everybody needs a coat like this. I’ll be getting this one!

Wildfox Palmetto Frayed Sweater | $168

Perfect for wearing with a pair of jeans!

Moon River Fringed Sweater | $69

This is a different take on a sweater and I love it! This also comes in black if that’s more your style!

Topshop Super Crop Sweater | $55

I love that this sweater is cropped because it gives you the tucked in look without the bulkiness of actually tucking in a thick knit.

Free People Menace Solid Tunic Sweater | $128
Free People Knit Tunic | $148

A super cozy turtleneck is a staple in my fall/winter wardrobe! They’re perfect for everyday wear but you can totally dress it up or down depending on the situation. For class I’ll wear these with leggings and my vans but you can also pair it with black jeans, a coat that I showed above this and some booties!

Free People That Classic Girl Bodysuit | $48

Again, turtlenecks! I swear I’m a grandma because I like them but they’re so easy. I love that this one is a bodysuit because that means you won’t have to worry about tucking it in constantly and it will stay down! Since this is fitted, it’s perfect for layering!

1.STATE Twist Front One-Shoulder Top |$49

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this top! It comes in a few different colors but I think this white color is really nice! I also love the red version. I would pair this with again, black jeans and a pair of heels for an early fall going out outfit!

Topshop Animal Print Pajama Shirt | $68

Okay, leopard print is so in this season and I need this top. It’s perfect for work but I think you could really have fun with this top and wear it for going out! If I was to wear it out, I’d unbutton it a little more, roll up the sleeves and layer necklaces with it!

Free People Square Eyes Bodysuit | $58

Again, anther basic bodysuit that’s great for layering but I love the square neckline!

ASTR The Label Dionne Skirt | $98
BLNKNYC Double Buckle Suede Skirt |$98
Free People High Waist Skinny Jeans | $78

I swear by black denim. The ones I wear basically all the time are by Topshop but these are the most similar pair I can find! Plus, I think they’re cheaper ūüėČ

Reformation Julia High Waist Cigarette Jeans | $128

We’ve seen these jeans for a couple of seasons now and I don’t think they’re going anywhere. A straight leg style like this makes it super easy to wear with booties, sandals, heels or a cute pair of tennis shoes. They’re comfortable enough for the day time but can transition to a night time pant as well!

Kristin Cavallari Satine Bootie | $174.95

White booties have been in since last year and I don’t see them going out of style this season! I really like the zipper down the front for a different look than your standard bootie. But, I really love the wood heel with this boot! I typically see black heels on a white bootie but I love this look.

Marc Fisher LTD Alva Bootie | $199

I think these are a pair of boots that will never go out of style. These boots are something you could honestly wear year round. During the spring and summer they’d look super cute with dresses and shorts but during the fall and winter these will look good with jeans or a black denim. I don’t think you can go wrong with this color but they do have so many other color options if these aren’t up your alley!

Marcel Snake Effect Ankle Boots | $180

Um, you need these. You’re welcome.

Mason Crocodile Effect Chelsea Boots | $160

Again, another bootie that you need! I love that it’s a new look to the chelsea boot!

Morty Angled Heel Boots | $130

A good everyday bootie! This color also makes it easy to wear with black or brown since both are on this boot!

Brixton Audrey Wool Felt Beret | $48

Berets were in last fall/winter and they’re back! I didn’t jump on the trend last year but I will this season! Lol, last winter I was out and found a red beret so I totally grabbed it and it’s now mine. I also look like the pillsbury dough boy in it so I need to work on that.

Leonard Braided Band Hat | $98

I didn’t know I was a hat person until I tried this style! There are a thousand different versions out there but I personally really like this one! Lack of Colour also makes some really awesome ones. For me, it’s key that the brim isn’t flimsy so that it stays flat like this. I find that when the brim is flimsy, it looks weird on me.

Panther Cross Body Bag | $48

This reminds me of the prada bags but for like 1,000th of the cost.

Vanbros Sponsorship letter.jpg
Topshop Taylor Crossbody Bag | $55

I think that this is such a fun statement bag! If you had on an all black or white outfit, this would totally pull it all together! A statement bag like this can bring together a really simple outfit and make it look like you tried harder than you did.

Yup, I’m Vegan.

Yup, I’m Vegan.

Surprise! Or not a surprise? I’ve been vegan for 2 years and a lot of people know but also a lot of people don’t know! So, with that, I figured that I’d share WHY I went vegan (because SOO many people ask) and a lot of questions that I’m asked and other vegans are asked! Hopefully, this will answer all of your questions (and DON’T ask where I get my protein from…I’m fine). But, I also wanted to share some of the top vegan restaurants in St. Louis!

During my freshman year of college, I had to take a public speaking class and for one of our speeches, we had to do a persuasive speech. So, in typical Sydney fashion, I waited until the night before it was due to actually start it. Which at that point, I was at a complete loss and scrambled to search a topic on google that would be good. I stumbled on the topic on why you should be vegetarian, “simple” is what I thought. I knew there would be a ton of information to support my speech so I rolled with it. At the time though, I was still eating meat but only when I was home from school or at restaurants because I was living in the dorm and I wouldn’t dare touch the dining hall meat. After reading about why you should be vegetarian, I made the switch overnight. I was vegetarian the next morning I woke up and I kept reading more information and started reading about being vegan. After more and more research, I did it without thinking about it. At first, I never thought I could give up cheese and ice cream but it turns out, it’s not that hard! The hardest thing about going vegan is definitely learning what you can and can’t eat and you’d be surprised how many products unnecessary ingredients are in!

  1. What do you actually eat? Um….everything? Just no animal products. All of the fruits, vegetables, and grains you can think of, I eat. Plus, there are so many vegan supplements like cheese, milk, meat that you’re really not missing out on anything, I promise!
  2. Is your partner vegan? How do you feel about that if they aren’t? Here’s what I think…I’m not going to force somebody to go vegan. It’s their decision and they have every right to their own decision about what they eat. But, I’m not going to cook it so they’re on their own. As long as I’m not eating or cooking it, I really don’t care.
  3. How do you get enough protein? 1. Please stop asking. 2. Protein is in almost everything I eat! I eat a TON of nut butter which has protein. Also, my almond milk has protein, nuts and seeds have protein, oatmeal, tempeh, hemp seeds, tofu, nutritional yeast (the holy grail), blackberries, bananas, broccoli, get the point by now.
  4. What made you want to be vegan? Read my story above! Everybody has a different answer! For some people, they do it for the animals, for health reasons or for the environment.
  5. Isn’t it sooo¬†hard? Nope! Sure, at first it’s difficult because you’re learning what you can eat and choose not to eat but you’re also learning how to cook without animal products and what types of food make you feel good and fill you up! For me, it was hard to give up cheese and dessert. But, I don’t miss it because there are so many good vegan¬†options out there now! I’ve been vegan for two years and there are SOO many more options now than there were two years ago! (Aka vegan pizza rolls. Thank me later).
  6. Isn’t it expensive? Actually, for me, it’s not! While living on my own I stuck to a lot of whole foods such as rice, beans, fruits, and vegetables. Those are typically pretty cheap. A lot of people think that fruits and vegetables are super expensive but you can find cheaper options. I eat a ton of bananas when I’m living on my own because they’re so expensive but you can eat them in so many ways so you don’t get bored of them!

Now, my favorite part! The restaurants:

Lulus: ALL TIME FAVORITE. Their menu rotates for spring/summer and fall/winter so if their spring/summer menu doesn’t interest you, the fall/winter menu will! My favorites for the spring/summer is the buffalo cauliflower wrap, obviously the buffalo cauliflower bites and the BBQ jack!

Lona’s Lil Eats: Super good for Asian inspired wraps! The¬†restaurant isn’t fully vegan but their menu is great at labeling what is!

Pizza Head: Vegan pepperoni pizza. Mmmhmm. This place is fully vegetarian so you don’t have to worry about real meat! The restaurant is super super cool and the pizza is good too!

Photo from Pizza Head website.

Tree House: Such a good brunch option! Good for cocktails as well!

Photo from Tree House website.

Sweet Art: SUCH GOOD CAKES/CUPCAKES! Ugh, I could cry just thinking about it. This is where my 21st birthday cake was from and to be honest, I hid it from my family so I didn’t have to share…it’s that good. They also have a different special for each day of the week that look super good!

Photo from Sweet Art website.

Small Batch:¬†Small Batch is a whiskey lounge so it’s definitely one of the nicer dining options!

Photo from Small Batch website.

Seedz: A really really good all vegan restaurant option! Um also, their cheesecake? Yes, please. Plus, they have baked vegan donuts! Does it get any better?

Pura Vegan: They have really good acai bowls for a decent price and raw vegan desserts.

Photo from Pura Vegan Yelp page.

Confluence Kombucha:¬†Kombucha on tap? Yup, yes, please!! This place is vegetarian/vegan so your friends can find something to eat here too if they’re totally weirded out by vegan food.

Photo from Confluence Kombucha Facebook.

Bombay Food Junkies:¬†They have a restaurant and a food truck so you’re bound to find them somewhere! This restaurant is an Indian/fusion vegan restaurant. ¬†I’ve never been but everybody that goes loves it! A super plus is that the owners are so nice!

Of course, if you have any questions then my Instagram inbox is ALWAYS open!! I’m here to help you!

The Rise of the Micro-Influencer.

The Rise of the Micro-Influencer.

Collaboration with Kendra Scott Summer 2018

And yes, they’re even better than you think they are.

The rise of the micro-influencer is now. Micro-influencers are going to be the next ‚Äúbig‚ÄĚ thing that brands are going to want to work with in 2018. But, what even is a micro-influencer? A micro-influencer is somebody who has 1,000 to 100,000 followers on Instagram, and suddenly, there is such thing as being too popular.

While micro-influencers have a lot fewer followers that those ‚ÄúInstagram celebrities‚ÄĚ every brand thinks they should be working with, micro-influencers get an average of two-to-five¬†times more organic engagement per Instagram post, compared to those with more than 100,000 followers. Once an influencer has more than 100,000 followers, engagement and likes start to flatten out. A lot of followers stop interacting with somebody who has a lot of followers because they are seen as ‚Äúfamous‚ÄĚ whereas followers are more likely to engage with an influencer when they have a smaller following because they feel as if they can relate to them better.

So why are companies choosing micro-influencers over the Kardashians of the world? It’s simple. Trust and relationships are being built with followers when an influencer has a smaller following, and that is critical for making a purchase. Looking at my Instagram (4,025 followers) vs. Kim Kardashians (1.9 million followers), I have a high engagement rate at 15.33% whereas Kim Kardashian only has an engagement rate of 1.69%. That’s quite a big difference. HubSpot reports that micro influencers, on average, receive 0.10% higher engagement rates than macro influencers. So this is where micro-influencers end up being the better option when looking for people to promote products on Instagram.

Micro-influencers are authentic. It is easier to believe that a micro-influencer actually bought or used a featured product. Although some photos a little staged, it’s easier to think that a micro-influencer purchased a snack than it is a celebrity. This kind of authenticity attracts engagement, awareness and brand recall. Hiring a micro-influencer is a lot cheaper than it is to hire a celebrity to feature a product on their page. On average, a micro influencer can charge around $140 per Instagram post whereas someone with over 1 million followers on Instagram can rake in almost $50k on a single post. Micro-influencers create higher engagement, and they are cheaper to work with. So realistically, they’re the better clients.

While more eyeballs might now be seeing the post from a micro-influencer, they still can create as much traction, if not more than a celebrity. Say you are an athletic brand just starting out and you believe you have a really great product. It would be easy to send your product to a celebrity, and that’s a guaranteed way for your brand to be noticed, BUT if you want real traction, it’s better to send your product to a fitness micro-influencer because if they are promoting your product, it’s most likely to people that trust them. When that trust is there, purchases are made.

The Ultimate Comfy Pant.

The Ultimate Comfy Pant.

The ultimate comfy pant and they’re the real deal. They’re better than leggings. Yup, I said it. Something actually beats leggings in a contest they didn’t even know they were involved in. BUT these pants from Brandy Melville are so so so comfortable. I had seen girls wearing the black version of these and like them, but didn’t know how often I would actually wear them. While I was in New York, I knew that I had to go to Brandy and try them on. Well, that lead me to these pants. They’re the same style, just a different color.¬†With these, they’re perfect for spring or summer because they are super light weight and super comfortable. Also, since these aren’t super tight, they aren’t going to stick to your sweat because that would be gross. Unfortunately, Brandy Melville is one size fits all so if you aren’t able to try them on, that can be tricky. Here are also some pants that I would recommend if you don’t find yourself in a location where there’s a Brandy Melville:

Pink and Blue Stripe Pants (SO cute)

As well as my pants, my top is also from Brandy Melville that I got a few years ago! It has embroidery where a pocket would be and these shirts are super popular right now! So with that being said, this is something you can easily find! Here are some of my favorite slogan shirts:

Topshop Amour Slogan Shirt

Femme Forever Shirt

Topshop Not Your Honey Slogan Shirt

I didn’t even bother wearing shoes in the pictures because shoes are lame. Jk, I like shoes just not that day I guess. Anyways, If I was to wear shoes with this outfit, I’d wear my infamous Steve Madden Brayla Platforms. If you couldn’t find those, these would also be super cute!

As always, follow me on Instagram (@sydney.wilhelm) to keep up to date with my outfits!

Ruffled Knits.

Ruffled Knits.

IMG_1060.JPGCall me crazy for wearing a sweater during the hottest part of the summer, a rough 95 degrees with humidity. Super fun! BUT, I wore this a few weeks ago on a cooler night and loved it, so I just got around to taking pictures of it. So anyways, it wasn’t super hot when I actually wore it, or I may have melted and died. I shot in this coffee shop last summer and have wanted to go back ever since so I figured this was the perfect time. It’s actually a coffee and beer place which is cool. Some nights they have live music which is fun if that’s what you’re into! I also really love the decor that they have. I like the white brick wall, the blue couch, the orange, the green, etc.¬†IMG_1066.JPG

I like this sweater because while it’s knit, it’s not a chunky winter sweater although you can definitely wear it then. I think it’s going to be the perfect transitioning piece for when we go into fall. It’s something that you could easily wear with shorts like I’m wearing, or with pants when it’s cooler out! The fact that it’s a more “open” knit means it’s see through so I just paired a cream bralette under it! Plus, this sweater was only $35! I especially like the ruffle detail on the front and it seems like that’s everywhere this summer.

For my shorts, they’re just a pair that I made! I think it’s so much better to go to somewhere like GoodWill and buy a pair of jeans for $5 than a pair of shorts for $60. This also allows you to customize the shorts however you want. You can add as many rips as you want, and you can control the length which is nice. I don’t like super short shorts so it’s typically hard for me to find high waisted shorts I actually like. If you aren’t wanting to make your own pair, these shorts are similar to mine although they come with a hefty price tag. These shorts from ASOS are similar as well as these shorts from Boohoo.

IMG_1070.JPGPer usual, these shoes by Steve Madden have been on my feet practically in every outfit I’ve worn on on blog. I like them so much because the color goes with anything. They’re also so so easy to dress down like I have in this outfits or to dress up! I highly recommend¬†getting a neutral pair of platforms. For me, height in a shoe is important. I’m 5’3 so I’ll take the extra 1-3 inches whenever possible. These Franco Sarto shoes are also super cute tan platforms that would go with anything!

4th of July Daydream

4th of July Daydream

IMG_09564th of July is THE BEST in Webster. Just like Thanksgiving, everybody comes together and celebrates it the best. If I say so myself, Webster celebrates it the best. I know it’s actually quite common for many people to go to the lake for the 4th but for me, Webster 4th of July is all I’ve ever known and all I ever want to know as far as that goes. I’m saying this now (and don’t hold me to it because really, not a single clue what I’m doing with my life or where I’ll be in a few years) but I will not miss 4th of July in Webster.

It’s the best small town feel in not a¬†small town. There’s a carnival every year, fireworks, really just the entire week leading up to the 4th is the best….ok, July 1st-July 4th so really not a week. Going to the carnival growing up

was a social scene. It’s where you went to hang out with friends, show off new outfits and actually just to be seen, you didn’t typically ride on the rides unless you were young. I did this up until this year where I just didn’t have time to go, I guess that’s what happens when you get older.

On the actual¬†4th, it’s a huge party. There’s a parade that’s basically the same every year. I live a street over from the parade route so that makes it more fun now! People set up their chairs before the day of, and it just get’s everybody excited. With that being said, there are definitely parties all day long! Just like Thanksgiving, the 4th of July is a fashion show. You get new clothes to wear for the day, and that’s how it’s always been.

Processed with VSCO with a4 preset

For my outfit, I opted for a more casual look. While in New York, I always make it a point to stop into Brandy Melville which is where my dress is from! A lot of people had on similar dresses in the same style and it was flattering on everyone I saw! Because of that, I think this style of dress would work on may different body types! This dress linked is from Urban Outfitters! Mine isn’t online but it’s so similar and will give you the same look.

Red lips have quickly become something I love!! I wore one to prom my senior year, loved it and didn’t really ever wear one since. I was constantly worried that I’d have to¬†touch it up but I’ve found two products where I don’t have to do that! The one I wore to prom is Nars Dragon Girl. I maaaayyyy have gotten it because Taylor Swift said she wears it but it’s the perfect red! In these pictures, I am wearing is an Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick.

I didn’t wear anything on my eyes other than mascara because I wore my Ray-Bans. My necklaces are from Nordstrom Rack and¬†Kendra Scott. I kept my shoes really simple and just wore my Tory Burch Miller sandals!
